Self Care – Create a Sacred Space Around You

Self Care – Create a Sacred Space Around You

Create a sacred space around you and be intentional about who and what you allow within it.

You were created by a divine being. Your body is a temple and your mind and soul are part of that temple. It is your duty to protect and nurture it. Creating a sacred space doesn’t mean putting your head in the sand and hiding from your past or your present problems.

It means

A.       Dealing with your past.

We all have a shadow. That place where we hide the parts of us that are too ugly to show, that place where we bury old wounds and cover old scars. The problem with a shadow is that it can creep up on you when you least expect it. It can cast darkness over parts of our lives and no matter how fast you run to get away from your shadow there is no outrunning it, because it is part of you. The only way to get rid of your shadow is by flooding every angle of your Self with light. Take time to deal with those part of yourself that you keep running away from. Ask for help. Confide in a trusted confidant who is willing to support you to uncover those parts. Invest in talk therapy.

B.       Forgive, move on but don’t allow it to happen again.

Some people should be loved from afar. If you know that a particular beautiful item is laced with toxic material and that if you bring that particular item close to you it will poison your entire body and slowly destroy you, would you choose to take that item into your possession and allow it to do all the things that you know it would? Or would you choose to admire it from a distance? Be careful not to allow toxicity into your sacred circle.

C.      Determine if you are the toxicity in your sacred circle and do something about it

D.       Surround yourself with beautiful things.

I don’t mean just physically beautiful things. Those are important as well. What I mean is, surround yourself with things that have meaningful beauty. You are the company you keep. Surround yourself with people who bring light to your life. Surround yourself with people who will help you to get rid of the darkness no matter how difficult that may be.

I also mean that you should keep only the possessions that make you happy. That dress you’ve got in the back of your closet, the one that seems to conjure bad feelings because you wore it ‘that time’. Maybe it’s time to help it find a new home. Somewhere it can help create new amazing memories.

I also mean that you should intentionally place yourself in beautiful situations that inspire you. if you know that attending that party is going to bring you nothing but ‘drama’ then send your kindest apologies. No matter how much you love that old childhood friend, If she only bring toxicity to you, then its time to learn to say NO and to say ‘Sorry I can’t meet up with you’ .

Make your home a sanctuary. My mantra is always, ‘even if you live in a cardboard box, you can colour it with crayons’. make your home a beautiful space where you can be at peace and truly at home.
